Kutaisi, the capital city of Imereti, is the second largest city in Georgia (after Tbilisi). The elegant streets of the old town, lined with 19th-century houses, stretch to the banks of the Rioni River. There are several nice parks near the river, so the center of Kutaisi is a great place for a walk. The impressive temples of Bagrati and Gelati, both of which are UNESCO heritage sites, testify to the importance of the region for Georgia.
The city is located 220 km from the capital and 150 km from Batumi.
There are many historical and architectural monuments in Kutaisi and its surroundings, among them: Bagrati Cathedral (XI century), Gelati Monastery (XII century), Geguti Palace (XII century). The balneological resort of Tskhaltubo, located near the city, and its main attraction - the Prometheus cave, are of increased interest among tourists. And also the Satapli Nature Reserve.
Satapli Nature Reserve is located just 7 km from Kutaisi. It is known for its karst caves and traces of dinosaurs that have survived to this day. Prometheus Cave is the largest cave in Georgia. Here you can admire the strangely shaped stalactites and stalagmites and take a boat ride along the underground river.
