🏖️ More and more beaches in Italy are switching to a pre-booking system
In Italy, about 20 popular beaches are already operating under a pre-booking system to combat overtourism and protect nature, The Times reports. Some of them are already fully booked this summer until mid-September.
🌊 Most of these beaches are located in Sardinia. In particular, the famous Pelosa beach no longer has free places until September 12, and only 250 visitors are allowed to the picturesque Cala Holorice daily, who must reserve a visit in advance.
🚫The restrictions are being introduced due to excessive tourist flow. Authorities explain that the large number of vacationers destroys dunes, tramples plants, leaves garbage, pollutes the coast and scares away wildlife. In addition, due to erosion over the past 50 years Italy has lost about 10 thousand acres of beach strip.
☀️The regions hope that the reservation system will help distribute tourists more evenly between less well-known beaches and will encourage some travelers to plan their vacation outside the peak summer season. Authorities emphasize that without such measures, some natural beaches may end up being closed to visitors altogether.
