Omiš is an ancient resort town located between Split and Makarska on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. In addition to beautiful landscapes, it is worth coming here to look at fabulous pirate fortresses (which used to be cities) and swim in the clear sea. Tourists who have visited the Croatian Omiš leave good reviews: they say that this city combines the past and the present in a strange way.
The Omiš Riviera is one of the most beautiful rivieras on the Croatian coast. It stretches for more than twenty kilometers and includes many small fishing villages with a long tradition, each of which has at least a few beaches and bays. Various pebbly, sandy or rocky beaches will please families with children, adventurers or couples looking for solitude.
The water in Omiš is clean and warm. There are no sea urchins, and the entrance to the sea is gentle, which is ideal for children. Active tourists will like the many entertainments here: rafting, playing beach volleyball, water attractions (banana, water balloon). As for the infrastructure, there are showers and toilets on the beach, and there are free sunbeds and umbrellas. There are cafes nearby.
This is a resort not only for lovers of beach holidays, but also for sightseeing: people lived here during the Roman Empire, later Slavs settled here, and a few centuries later Omiš was annexed to Venice - that's why there are a lot of historical sights here. What are the pirate castles built in the 13th century worth? The symbols of this town are two attractions.
Pirate fortress (Fortress Starigrad) - from the pirate times of Omiš, it is located on the very top of the mountain. As you know from the name, pirates used to live here: after another successful robbery, they climbed up the mouth of the Cetina River and found themselves in their shelter (and earlier, by the way, it was not a single building, but an entire city). Here there was everything for a comfortable life: high stone walls for protection from enemies, beautiful gardens and even vegetable gardens where tomatoes, eggplants, and various berries were grown. The end of the pirates came at the end of the 16th century, when the Republic of Venice, led by the Pope, turned to the Crusaders for help - they finally quelled the robbers.Today, the pirate fortress is one of the main attractions of Omiš, Croatia. A large number of foreign guests come here. However, getting to the fortress itself is not as easy as it might seem at first: you have to climb many stairs. For the elderly or children, this excursion may be too difficult, so before starting the climb, it is worth assessing your strength. But if you reach the top, your efforts will be rewarded: the tower offers a magnificent view of the city and the sea. Here you can stand for hours and admire the ferries passing by and the seagulls soaring in the air. From here you will be able to take good photos of the Croatian Omis.
Fortress Mirabella (Fortress Mirabella) - Another pirate fortress - Mirabella. It was built in the 13th century and has already been restored twice. Along with the previous landmark, it is a symbol of a small town. A large number of tourists come here, and many of them say that it is not even the building itself that is interesting, but the wonderful view of the city that can be seen from the tower.Getting to the building is not so easy: you have to climb numerous (often steep) stairs. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare for such a trip: wear good shoes with thick soles, take some water and food, do not forget about comfortable clothes.
