The resort is located 41 km from Larnaca, in the southeast of the country. Until 1974, Ayia Napa (translated as "sacred forest") was a small fishing village with a dozen huts located around the monastery. Once a hunter got lost in this forest and came across a cave, inside which he discovered an amazing find - an icon of the Mother of God.
