NATURE AND CLIMATE

The nature of the Isle of Skye is so beautiful that, as they say, it takes your breath away.Imagine for a moment: sprawling endless green meadows, lakes untouched by civilization and all this against the background of proudly rising mountain peaks and hills.Skye is called the foggy island for a reason: the weather here is very changeable and mostly cloudy, which gives it mystery and unique romance.

There are many beautiful places on the island, especially the rocks and cliffs, which offer breathtaking views of the ocean. The climate on the Isle of Skye is warm but humid, so stock up on raincoats and clothes that don't get blown away, even in summer.

Don't be surprised if you encounter flocks of sheep at every turn during your journey. She is an integral part of the landscape of Skye and is also very innocent.

HOW TO GET

The best way to get to Skye is from Inverness. You can also drive from the Scottish capital - Edinburgh - but in this case you will need to cover another 250 kilometers. Note that there is no direct flight from Moscow to Inverness. You can get here with one or more transfers. The stop, as a rule, takes place in London. Be prepared that the journey by air to Inverness will take at least nine hours. We consider: four hours to fly from the Russian capital to London, plus a two-hour transfer and then a three-hour flight to Inverness.

Now you and Skye are separated by some 180 kilometers. They can be overcome by taking the train to Kyle of Lochalsh station. You won't have to be bored during the trip (it will last two and a half hours): your attention will be drawn to the scenery outside the window - beautiful and incredibly romantic.Train tickets will cost from GBP 13.8 per person. After getting off at the Kyle of Lochalsh terminus, you will need to wait for a bus that will take you directly to Skye, or rather to its administrative center called Portree. How can a bus drive through water, since Skye is an island, you ask? It's simple: in 1995, a reliable one-and-a-half-kilometer bridge was built here, and since then tourists are frequent visitors to Skye. The remaining part of the road from the station to Portree can also be covered by water, taking a ferry.

ENTERTAINMENT AND SIGHTS

It is better to travel around the island with a rented car.It is convenient, first of all, because you can build an excursion route yourself and stop in any town you like for an unlimited time. And now about the sights.Everyone who comes here does not pass by the Eilen-Donan castle.Despite the fact that the magnificent building is more than seven and a half centuries old, people still live in it.This is the McRae dynasty, but the family occupies only six rooms, with the rest of the space devoted entirely to tourist excursions.Tickets: £7.50.

An equally popular spot on Skye is the Old Man of Storry rock. The fifty-meter rock got its name because of its resemblance to an old man, and tourists are attracted by its unusual location.

The cliff has a strong slope, it seems to hang over everything, but at the same time it does not fall and maintains balance.Climbing to the "Old Man of Storry" is not easy, you will need some physical effort. You can supplement your photo report with stunning pictures, and at the same time get new vivid impressions, by going to the foot of the Quilins Hills. The peaks soaring into the sky are literally covered with a cap of clouds and thus attract tourists to them. But conquering the Quilins Hills on your own, if you are far from the rank of an experienced climber, is still not worth it.The Scottish mountains are, of course, not Everest (their height is about 900 meters), but climbing them is very difficult, especially for untrained tourists.
