Evia - the second largest Greek island after Crete, is located in the Aegean Sea, 80 km north of Athens. The island is separated from the mainland by the narrow Strait of Evripa. The uniqueness of the Euripa channel is that every 6 hours the direction of the water flow changes. The water first forms so-called "standing" waves, and then one current absorbs the other, and so it has been for more than two millennia. The mystery of the strait worried the great Aristotle and, according to legend, not being able to solve the secret of the strait, the ancient philosopher ended his life in its waters.
Karistos and Eretria are considered the main resorts of Evia. Both of them are located in the southern part of this island, where the tourist infrastructure is especially developed. Evia is also a large balneological resort. There are springs with a small radon content. Treatment here is indicated for those suffering from rheumatic diseases, gynecological and endocrine disorders, diseases of the cardiovascular system.
