The island of Rhodes, the fourth largest island of the Greek archipelago belonging to Greece, is located in the southeast of the country, washed by the blue waters of the Aegean Sea from the west and the gentle waters of the Mediterranean from the east. Rhodes is the island of knights and a real treasure trove of Mediterranean artifacts. According to ancient Greek legend, the paradisiacal landscapes of Rhodes astounded even Zeus when the waves parted before him. The island owes its name to the beloved of the god Helios, the nymph Rhodes, whose beauty was compared to the picturesqueness of these lands.
Rhodes is known for its seaside resorts, ancient ruins and houses built by the Knights Hospitaller during the Crusades. In the Old Town of Rhodes, the main settlement of the island, it is worth visiting the medieval Street of the Knights and the Palace of the Grand Masters, which resembles a fortress that was captured by the Ottomans and then by the Italians. Now a historical museum has been opened in it.The historical part is included in the UNESCO world cultural heritage list. Interestingly, the Old Town of Rhodes is surrounded by the longest fortress wall in Europe - 14.5 km.
Vacation in Rhodes cannot be called boring. Numerous bars and restaurants, discotheques and shops, first-class and budget hotels offer a wide range of entertainment for every taste. Lively nightlife, regular city festivals and celebrations create an unforgettable atmosphere of Greek fun for guests. Arrival is carried out at Diagoras International Airport (Rhodes), which is located 14 km from the city center.
The climate on the island of Rhodes is Mediterranean, with sunny days for most of the year. The hottest months are July–August: the average air temperature is +29 °C, the water warms up to +25 °C.
