Castelsardo is a small village of medieval origin, where time seems to have stopped. Walking through the alleys, you can see flowers on the balconies, tables in open restaurants and baskets on the doors of houses. This is one of those villages where you can get lost and find sophistication, vitality and authenticity.

Doria Castle and the Museum of Weaving

The fortress stands on the highest point of Castelsardo, as if watching a village with colorful houses, and makes its skyline unique and recognizable. Strolls along the medieval avenue of the fortress, especially the ramparts, give visitors glimpses and unforgettable panoramas lost in the open sea, allowing you to breathe in air full of iodine and history. Currently, the castle houses the Mediterranean Museum (MIM), where you can admire the characteristic baskets made from dwarf palm leaves and woven by hand according to an ancient tradition.

A walk through the historical center

Like any village, Castelsardo has narrow streets, alleys and steps that offer picturesque corners for photos and observations. At every intersection and corner, a new scenario opens up with plants and flowers, colorful houses or breathtaking views. Also explore historic buildings and discover their architecture and beauty, such as the Palazzo Loggia, home to the town hall, the Palazzo dei Doria and the Palazzo di Eleonora d'Arborea. The Bishop's Palace - the ancient residence of the bishops, inside which you can admire original furniture and works of art, as well as a permanent exhibition dedicated to magic, witchcraft and the Holy Inquisition. Among the small religious buildings is the small church of Purgatorio, where funeral rites were once held.

Port

Porto Frinzianu is a tourist port located in the western part of Castelsardo. This area is less touristy than the historic center, but a walk among the boats moored at the pier is very pleasant. Nearby is the small beach of Torre Frinziano, a tower built as a defensive outpost during Spanish rule. It offers a truly wonderful view of the village.

Beaches

Right next to the port is the Marina di Castelsardo beach, which is often overcrowded but is the closest to the city. A few minutes' drive away is the more famous Lou Bagnou Beach, a long stretch of golden beach with plenty of flat stones for lying and sunbathing. In particular, Madonnina beach is located in this area - a beach equipped with all services. Other very beautiful beaches are Cala Austin, which is a bit tiring to get to but beautiful, Punta La Capra for sailing and windsurfing and Punta Li Paddimi for snorkelling.
