Qatar is a country in the Middle East, located on the Qatar Peninsula. Qatar has only one land border - in the south with Saudi Arabia, on all other sides the country is surrounded by the waters of the Persian Gulf. The capital is Doha, which is also the main resort of the country. The state also owns several islands surrounded by coral reefs.
Most of the country's territory is covered with deserts, oases are rare. There are practically no fresh water sources in Qatar, so almost all water is obtained by desalination of sea water.
One of the most important natural resources of Qatar is Khor al-Adaid - the Inland Sea. This unusual place on our Earth, where the sea penetrates far into the desert, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a reserve with a unique ecosystem that is not found anywhere else in the world!
Despite its relatively small area - only 11,437 sq. km with a population of almost 2.7 million people, the Emirate of Qatar is among the three countries with the richest natural gas reserves in the world. It is to the production of gas, as well as oil, that the country owes its lightning-fast development in many areas and its leading position in terms of GDP per capita.
