The resort, located in the western part of Sri Lanka, is a suburb of Colombo, from which Mount Lavinia is separated by only 12 km. It is this proximity, as well as sandy beaches with beautiful views, that attract tourists from all over the world. This is one of the first resorts in Sri Lanka - the place was favored by the British during their colonial rule and regulated.
The Governor's House, built here by Sir Thomas Maitland in 1805 for his mistress Lavinia (hence the town's name), has now been converted into the famous Mount Lavinia Hotel.
You can visit Mount Lavinia from November to April - this is the driest season, the water temperature in the ocean is about 28 degrees. In other months, there is a high probability of tropical downpours, so this period is called the rainy season.
