Koh Chang is the second largest island in Thailand after Phuket (about 30 km long and 18 km wide). The word "chang" in Thai means "elephant": with its outlines, the island resembles the figure of a lying animal. Lovers of a quiet beach holiday, families, and romantics will like it here.
Chang is located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand. About 80% of the territory is covered with tropical forest. In 1982, Koh Chang was included in the national park.
The distance from the island to Suvarnabhumi International Airport (Bangkok) is approximately 320 km. If you get from the airport by land transport, the journey will take almost six hours.
From the mainland, from the piers at Laem Ngop, ferries regularly run to the island. On average, the voyage takes 30-45 minutes.
Flooded after the rainy season, the island's rivers form many picturesque waterfalls. The most famous of them are the two-tiered Klong Pliu, Tan Mayom and Kiripet. Klong Pliu is located 500 m from Klong Prao beach, it is the largest on Koh Chang. The lower bowl of Klong Pliu is good for swimming: its depth reaches 7 m. The multi-tiered Tan Mayom waterfall is located on the east coast.
Chang is already quite densely developed by travelers, so the level of tourist infrastructure here is sufficient. There are many hotels, cafes, restaurants, shops, spas and other facilities necessary for a quality and fulfilling vacation.
To get acquainted with the local culture and life, you can visit one of the island villages: their inhabitants preserve the traditional way of life. The village of Kong Kang Bay is especially bright. You can taste fresh seafood dishes in the fishing village of Bang Bao in the south of the island.
