Kosa Arabatskaya Strilka is a recreational area located between the Sea of Azov and the Gulf of Sivash, which includes the Ukrainian resorts of Genicheska Hirka, Shchaslyvtseve, and Strilkove.
Environmental cleanliness, wide sandy beaches, warm sea and a wide selection of accommodation annually attract thousands of tourists from Ukraine and abroad.
The Arabat Arrow is a strip of land more than 100 kilometers long that stretches from Henichesk in the Kherson Region to the village of Kamianske, which belongs to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The width of the spit varies from 270 meters to 8 kilometers.
From the western side, Arabatska Strelka is washed by the waters of the Sivash Bay. The eastern side of the spit faces the Sea of Azov, which is considered the smallest in the world. Due to the small depth, the sea water warms up quite quickly. Unlike the Black Sea, Azov, incl. in the area of the Arabat Arrow, practically not exposed to cold underwater currents.
The water temperature in mid-May, when the beach season on Arabatskaya Strelka begins, is about + 18-22 ° C. In July - August, this indicator reaches a mark of + 28-30. Due to this temperature regime, among all the salt water bodies of the world ocean, Azov occupies a leading place in terms of biological productivity. The natural decay of plant and animal organisms inhabiting the sea leads to the formation of a natural silt layer rich in minerals and trace elements. Mixing with water during a storm, silt makes the sea slightly cloudy, but complements the healing properties of Azov water, making bathing even more beneficial for health.
The climate in the seaside resort is steppe, with quite hot summers. On average, the resort has 270-286 sunny days a year, while significant cloud cover is typical for late autumn and winter. In summer, it is usually clear or partly cloudy, precipitation is short-lived and very soon replaced by the sun.
Large salt ponds and protected steppes form air masses that, when mixed, become a unique cocktail containing phytoncides, ozone, iodine and bromine ions. In addition, there is one and a half times more oxygen in the Azov air than, for example, in the Black Sea air. Such a unique combination of natural factors makes the air healing, so rest on Arabatskaya Strelka is indicated for asthmatics, people prone to allergic reactions and frequent respiratory diseases.
