Blanes is a Spanish resort that is very different from its neighboring resorts. Although Blanes is very popular and crowded in the summer, it remains quieter than its neighbors, so it is ideal for those who prefer a break from the noise typical of large resorts. There are nightclubs and bars here, and many hotels offer free cabaret shows and after-dinner entertainment during the high season, but still the resort is considered to be more peaceful. Since Blanes (Spain) is a popular holiday destination among Europeans, especially among the British.
Blanes is a popular tourist destination in Spain because of its beautiful sandy beaches, which attract tourists from all over Europe. Despite its popularity, Blanes retains its charm, which makes tourists come back here again and again. The main attraction of Blanes is, of course, the beaches with a total length of 4 kilometers, which attract families who prefer to sunbathe and swim in the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Although the main focus of Blanes is on the beaches, there is also an old town with medieval houses, Gothic fountains, squares and churches.
Blanes is a "family town". Blanes was the first resort on the Costa Brava to be awarded the Family Tourism Certificate (in 2007).
The Blanes promenade (Paseo de Cortils la Vieta) and the port are other important places in Blanes that are definitely worth seeing. The town also has several beautiful coves, including the coves of San Francesco and Punta de Santa Anna.
While the coast north of Blanes has high cliffs and beautiful coves, the coast south of Blanes is much gentler, as the Tordera River flows into the Mediterranean Sea here. Blanes is still a fishing town in Spain, so one of the main attractions of the resort is the fish market, which is held every evening in the harbor. Blanes harbor is located almost in the center of the city, so you can hardly miss it. Fishing boats go to sea early in the morning and return early in the evening with their catch. Almost all the catch is immediately sold at the fish market.
Another famous attraction of the city of Blanes is the Marimurta Botanical Garden, located northeast of Blanes. Founded in the 1920s according to the design of the famous German industrialist Karl Faust, the garden contains about 3,000 species of plants. The botanical garden is divided into three zones dedicated to vegetation of different climatic zones: subtropical, temperate and Mediterranean. Nature lovers should also appreciate the Piña de Rosa Park, which is located between Blanes and Lloret de Mar on an area of about 500,000 square meters. Here you will find one of the largest collections of living cacti in Europe with more than 7,000 species of cacti from all over the world.
If you decide to go to Blanes with children, you should consider a trip to the Water World water park, which is located near the city of Lloret de Mar. Here you can have a great time. Between Blanes and Malgrat de Mar is the Marineland dolphinarium, which is a kind of combination of a marine zoo and a water park.
