Oliva has long been a popular holiday destination for Spaniards living elsewhere in the country. More recently, the area has also become popular with foreign visitors. Mainly due to the unspoilt, uncrowded 7km of Blue Flag beaches that the area enjoys. The town is located in the heart of Spain’s Orange Region, 75km south of Valencia and 100km north of Alicante.
Beaches
Oliva’s 7km stretch of beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status for their excellent cleanliness and facilities; all of them are wheelchair accessible.
Many of the beaches have sand dunes, ideal for a bit of seclusion. There are also a variety of water sports at your fingertips. Oliva Nova Golf is an 18-hole beach and golf resort, a true golfer’s paradise.
Culture and History
Oliva is home to one of the province's largest Moorish and Christian festivals (Festes de Moros i Cristians), a treat for visitors to the city during the third week of July. The old town has two churches: Sant Roc and Santa María la Mayor. Sant Roc dates back to the 18th-19th centuries, while Santa María dates back to the 17th-18th centuries. On top of the hill in the old town is the Castle of Santa Anna, built in the 16th century. There is also an ancient Roman oven in the very center of the town.

Oliva has a Mediterranean-subtropical climate with more than 230 days above 20 °C. Winters are mild and temperate, while summers are hot and dry. Average annual temperature 18.5 °C
Cuisine
The local cuisine of Oliva is rich, traditional and wholesome, specialties include: Coques a la Clafó (baked corn cakes), La Espardenyá (stewed eel), Pebreres Farcides (stewed rice with peppers), Figatells (grilled meatballs), La Pilota (stewed stew), Prawns with beetroot. Deserts are equally divine: Els Rosegons, Pacencies and Mantecados (shortcrust pastry). Enjoy a taste of Oliva in one of the many charming bars and restaurants.
Transport
Oliva is served by rail from Gandía; a short bus ride away. The international airports of Valencia and Alicante (El Altet) have daily connections to the rest of Spain and Europe. If you are looking for a vacation away from people and typical tourist attractions, Oliva is the place for you.
