Skadovsk is a port, district center and resort town on the Dzharylgatsky Bay of the Black Sea in the Kherson region, since 2012 it has been awarded the official status of "Resort of State Importance of Ukraine".
The main advantages of recreation are wide sandy beaches and a very shallow coast, thanks to which Skadovsk is considered the main children's health resort of the Ukrainian Black Sea coast.
Skadovsk is located in the south of Ukraine, 94 kilometers from Kherson. It is widely believed that the resort is on the Black Sea, but, in fact, it is located on the shores of the Dzharylgat Bay.
The resort is located in the steppe zone of southern Ukraine on a flat terrain that has a natural slope to the southeast and a sharp transition to the coastal sand-mud line, the maximum height of which is about two meters. From the south, Skadovsk is washed by the shallow Dzharylgatsky Bay, which warms up quite quickly, and in the height of the summer season reaches a temperature of over + 30 ° C.
The climate in the resort is moderately continental, arid in summer, so the steppes surrounding the city dry up already in the first half of summer. The average air temperature in July is +24 ° C. The resort season in Skadovsk starts from May and lasts until September inclusive. The landscapes of the region are also similar to the Ukrainian Azov region - steppe, shrubs and plantations of deciduous trees.
There are practically no large industrial facilities in and around the resort, but due to the commercial port that effectively divides the beach in two, the coast near the pier can be polluted. Despite this, Skadovsk is a very popular health resort, within which more than 80 health facilities are located, approximately one third of them are for children. The most favorable factor for the body here is considered to be the iodine-bromine waters of the bay and the air, full of vapors from its surface and phytoncides from the Kherson steppes.

We will remind that the Black Sea resort of Skadovsk is actually located in a bay separated from the Black Sea by the island of Dzharylgach. The long island, located almost parallel to the coast of the resort, reliably protects the water area from storms and cold water masses, which creates its own microclimate of the bay, the average depth of which is 1-5 meters, the maximum - about 8 meters.
The bottom along the coast of the Dzharylgat Bay is sandy and silty and very densely "beaten", so sand is specially brought to the beach of Skadovska. It is worth noting the very gentle entrance to the reservoir. What is favorable for recreation with children.
In terms of infrastructure, the coast within Skadovsk is equipped quite well. On the city beach, which occupies the entire strip along the pedestrian promenade, there are shade canopies, booths for changing clothes, toilets, trash cans.
Infrastructure and entertainment
Skadovsk is a small town, you can walk along the coast in about an hour, in the direction from the beach to the most distant quarters - in half an hour.
In general, the infrastructure at the resort is quite well developed. The city has a polyclinic, a hospital, pharmacies, bank branches, ATMs, currency exchange offices, service facilities, post offices, a market and a fairly large number of shops.
Leisure and entertainment facilities, as well as public catering establishments, are mainly concentrated near the embankment, which is located near the port, which divides the coastal area of the resort into two parts. The embankment is the center of night resort life and entertainment - next to it there are disco bars and clubs, the most popular of which are "Ozon", "Grand, Storm!", and "Miami" and are open until the morning.
Aquapark "Aquatoria" is located literally 20 meters from the beach on the embankment and has two sets of descents - adult and children's. It has three swimming pools, a relaxation area with sunbeds, a bistro "Burger Club".
The "Treasure Island" amusement park, decorated according to the cartoon of the same name, is located not far from the water park and the embankment. The main attraction of the park is a Ferris wheel, from which you can see the water area and the resort. In addition to it, the so-called luna park has various carousels, American mini-slides, figures of cartoon characters and children's locomotives at the entrance - you can ride along the beach along the embankment in them. Unlike the local water park, there are quite extreme attractions for adrenaline lovers.
Dolphinarium "Akvarel" in Skadovsk is located on Popovycha Street 2-E, approximately at the end of the pedestrian embankment. Show-programs with the participation of dolphins and fur seals take place from Tuesday to Sunday, the price of tickets is UAH 250-300, children under 3 years old are free without reservation. On the territory of the dolphinarium, there is a terrarium, a town of attractions and entertainment, an exhibition "Upside Down House".
In other respects, Skadovsk's entertainment is little different from most domestic sea resorts - trampolines on the beach, banana rides, "pill", flights under a parachute over the water surface.
