In the center of the lake, like the pupil of a blue eye, is a small island with an area of only a few meters. Hence the popular name of the lake - Morske Oko.
Legend
According to legend, the lake was formed from the tears of the count's daughter - Xin, at the place where her beloved, a simple shepherd from Verkhovyna, Vira, was killed with a fireplace by the order of the count, so that his daughter could not be with a commoner.
On the basis of this legend, 13-meter high wooden monuments "Syn and Vyr" (authors Ivan Brovdi and Mykhailo Sanych) were installed near the shore of the lake.
The Brown Bear Rehabilitation Center is also located on the territory of the "Synevyr" NPP.
