Hotel "Ungvarskyi" in Uzhhorod was built by Johann and Ilona Artogi in 1876. After 132 years, in 2007, after a complete reconstruction, the Ethno-wellness hotel "Ungvarskyi" offers its guests cozy rooms, friendly service, traditional Transcarpathian cuisine and professional health care.
Until the second half of the 19th century, on the site of the "Ungvarsky" complex, there was the oldest park in Uzhhorod - Pidzamkovy, where among catalpa, cypress trees, cherry trees, spruce, elms, pines, the oldest tree of Uzhhorod still grows - a 600-year-old maple-leaf plane tree.
It is believed that it was planted in the 15th century by the then owner of the Uzhhorod Castle, the Italian Count Druget. Representatives of the famous feudal families of Europe at that time, such as Pereni, Drugetti, Gunyadi, Teleki, Rakotsi, Witsmandi, Ploteni, Pongratz visited the park to distract themselves from state affairs.
In 1874, the local couple Johan and Ilona Artogi started work, and within two years the "Ungvar Hotel" was opened, which later became known as a balneological resort.
According to the project of the royal engineer Bertalan Lemer, a mineral bath (bath) was built here, and a representative of the famous bell-casting dynasty, Ferenc Egri, by order of the owner, cast a vat for receiving medical procedures, which has survived to this day. Almost immediately, the mineral baths of the "Ungvarsky" hotel became a favorite place of rest for guests and residents of the city. The complex gained special popularity at the end of the 19th century, when people not only rested here, but also took carbon dioxide, siliceous, purulent baths, which saved from ailments, women's diseases, anemia and catarrh of the stomach.
The restaurant of the Ungvarsky hotel, decorated in a traditional style, serves Carpathian cuisine. You can also have lunch on the open terrace.
