The west coast stretches from Maravilla down to Galle, the most developed part of the country in every way. Colombo is the air gateway of the island, so one way or another, all trips to Sri Lanka begin here.
To the south of Colombo stretch the most popular beaches of Sri Lanka - Kalutara, Beluwara, Bentota and Hikkaduwa. These resorts are mainly focused on package tours and long, comfortable beach vacations.
Among the features of local beaches are golden sand, an endless ocean and a feeling of space and wilderness, which is largely determined by the flat landscape and the absence of bays, the large size of the beaches and the long distances between cities / villages / beach hotels.
Among all the coasts of Sri Lanka, the west coast is considered the rainiest. If on the east coast the rainy season and the dry season differ greatly in terms of precipitation, on the west coast the difference in precipitation between these seasons is not so great. However, it is generally accepted that the period from October-November to April-May is the dry season here, and the other seasons are the rainy season. However, even during the rainy season, tourists often come to the west coast of Sri Lanka, as during this season there is often sunny weather without precipitation.
As for the air temperature, in general, the air temperature in the west is slightly lower than in the east. Such a strong heat, as on the east coast in May - August, does not happen here. As a rule, the air temperature during the day is between 28 and 33 degrees, and at night it is 26-28 degrees.
